Our art and craft classes are designed to introduce children aged 2-5 to the wonderful world of creativity through painting, making, sensory exploration and messy play. Each week brings something new to discover, with plenty of opportunity to explore, experiment and proudly make something of their own.

The weekly class
Made for little makers.
A playful introduction to art, crafts, sensory exploration and messy play. Children can paint, print, mix, stick, explore different materials and get wonderfully messy, all alongside their parent or carer.
Wednesdays, 10:00 - 11:00, at The Makery in Winsley. One child and one grown-up per ticket, with a hot drink for you.
Our approach
Every child is an artist.
We want children to have the freedom to explore different materials, try new techniques, get messy and use their imagination.
There is no perfect end result at Mini Makers. We might begin with an artist, a story, a season or an idea, but where each child takes it is entirely up to them.
Some weeks will involve lots of paint. Others might mean printing, collage, colour mixing or sensory play.
What matters is that children have the opportunity to experiment, enjoy themselves and experience that brilliant “look what I made!” feeling.

What happens in a Mini Makers class?

We introduce the idea
We start with a short, interactive introduction to the week's theme. It could be a story, song, artist, season or something from the world around us.

We explore
Children experiment with different materials, colours and creative techniques through playful, age-appropriate activities.

We create
They use what they have explored to make their own artwork or craft, with plenty of freedom to follow their own ideas.

We take it home
Every child leaves with something they have proudly created themselves.
Why it matters
Creativity is about much more than making something pretty.
In the first few years of a child's life, they are constantly exploring and learning about themselves and the world around them.
Painting, making and creative play give children opportunities to experiment, make choices, solve problems, practise coordination and build confidence.
Most importantly, they begin to discover that their own ideas are worth exploring.
Created by mums, for little makers
It all started with our children.
One of the things we have loved most as mums is watching our daughters learn and grow through creativity.
From the first time they picked up a paintbrush to proudly bringing us their latest creation, we have seen how much joy, confidence and imagination can come from simply giving children the opportunity to make something themselves.
We have loved the messy moments, the funny ones and especially the “look what I made!” moments.
It made us think: why not create a place where lots of little artists can experience that too? And that is where Mini Makers began.
For grown-ups
Little people. No pressure.
We know young children do not always follow the plan. And that is completely fine.
Your child might want to watch for a while before joining in. They might spend twenty minutes completely absorbed in one activity. They might approach what we have planned in a completely different way. That is all part of it.
You stay with your child throughout the session, so they can explore at their own pace with their favourite grown-up nearby.

Questions
First time at Mini Makers?
Our regular classes are designed for children aged 2-5, with activities planned so that every little maker can join in at their own level.
Yes. A parent or carer stays with their child throughout the class. Mini Makers is something to enjoy together, and every ticket includes a hot drink for the grown-up.
Anything you don't mind getting a little messy! We use child-friendly materials, but paint has a habit of travelling, so old clothes are always a good idea.
No craft supplies needed. We provide all of the materials for the session, so just bring your usual child essentials and your little maker.
Not at all. There is no expected ability and no perfect finished result. Mini Makers is about exploring, experimenting, using their imagination and enjoying making something themselves.
